Princeton University is a private Ivy League research college in Princeton, New Jersey, United States. Established in 1746 in Elizabeth as the College of New Jersey, Princeton was the fourth sanctioned foundation of advanced education in the Thirteen Colonies[5][a] and in this manner one of the nine Colonial Colleges built up before the American Revolution. The foundation moved to Newark in 1747, then to the present site nine years after the fact, where it was renamed Princeton University in 1896.
